Opioid Prevention, Education and Diversion
New Start O.P.E.D. will implement two program requirements;
(1) Jail-based overdose prevention and naloxone distribution for participants prior to release from county jail or detention in Henderson, NC. and (2) Law Enforcement Assisted Diversion (LEAD) will be implemented in Apex, NC to increase access and
use of treatment services and community resources resulting in a decrease of drug related criminal
activity.
The goals of New Start O.P.E.D. is to reduce opioid overdose and justice involvement by accessing prevention education, treatment, and supportive services.
The impact of New Start O.P.E.D. is reduced criminal activity recidivism, increased self-sufficient and family stability, increased opioid addiction management and overdose prevention and decreased harm
reduction.
